Sick stray dog buckles when he sees blanket on woman’s porch and allows her to help him

Nothing is more heartbreaking than seeing defeat in the eyes of someone you’re fighting for. Dogs have long enjoyed their place beside mankind but this is not always the case.

Time and time again, we still see or hear news about stray dogs by the hundreds.

But sometimes help isn’t too far

These dogs often fend for themselves by foraging in the trash or relying on the kindness of people around them.

This dog, however, doesn’t have this kind of luxury.

Lisa Arturo and Lisa Chiarelli of Big Love Animal Rescue received a call.

The woman who called them reported a dog making rounds in their neighborhood. The dog isn’t harmful and was just trying its best to survive.

It was clearly a stray.

The woman also said the people in her neighborhood often throw rocks at him to chase or scare him away.

He doesn’t have a home and no one knows how long he has been living like this.

The concerned woman thought that he shouldn’t continue suffering like this.

The duo went to the neighborhood to pick up the dog.

They were ready with food, water, and crates. They made rounds in the neighborhood and were checking backyards and alleyways.

It wouldn’t be that easy, though.

Minutes turned to hours.

Even after hours of waiting and looking, the dog hadn’t shown up.

There were no signs of the stray and it was getting late.

The duo gave up that day but not without preparing for tomorrow’s trap.

They asked the woman to leave out a blanket on her porch to lure the dog.

The next morning, they got the call.

The woman called them again saying that the dog was on her porch as they were speaking.

Arturo and Chiarelli drove back to the neighborhood with their crates and chicken.

Bundled up

When they arrived at the woman’s home, they saw the dog wrapped in a blanket as if it was the first time he experienced that kind of comfort.

They prepared traps and maneuvers just in case the dog tried to sprint but instead, they were faced with something heartbreaking.

He was giving up.

The dog was so defeated it didn’t even put up a fight.

It’s as if it was asking the both of them to do what they want with him because he just wants to give up.

The two comforted him and stroked his scabbed face to tell him that it was going to be fine.

They then drove him to the vet to have him checked and cleaned up.

They were lucky they got to the dog when they did because his test results showed that he needed every bit of help he could get.

He was placed in a shelter

There, he had his best chance at rehabilitation for the time being.

Luckily, it didn’t take too long before a couple adopted the dog.

He was introduced to his new family and fit in quite well with the couple’s other dogs.

From a place that chased him away with rocks, the O’Donnells said that he was enjoying the garden that he claimed as his own.

And for the remainder of his days, this dog will never again experience the harshness that he went through in the streets.

“I think he’s going to be one of these dogs that’s like a perpetual puppy.” Amy O’Donnell said to The Dodo. “He’s just so loveable. We just got so lucky.”

And we know this dog feels the same way.
